Two months at Z-RED: exploring validation and healthcare use cases

Between July and September 2025, Dr. Katerina Kanta completed a two-month secondment at Z-RED as part of the ENSURE-6G project. The secondment focused on cross-task collaboration around security validation with links to AI-based protection mechanisms and ethical/legal requirements.

During her stay, she explored how privacy and robustness requirements could be translated into clearer validation hooks, especially in high-stakes settings like healthcare. The telemedicine use case (remote monitoring, diagnostic support, edge-based inference) provided a strong test bed for identifying potential failures in explainability, fairness, or resilience.

The work aimed to help ground some of the project’s more ambitious security goals in measurable, scenario-based conditions. The focus did not stay at the design layer, instead Dr. Kanta along with the CEO of Z-Red, Eirini Kanaki and fellow secondee Dr. Andrikopoulou looked at how these goals can actually be tested, so that future components hold up under pressure.

The outcomes of the secondment are now feeding into broader ENSURE-6G efforts around validation, integration, and policy guidance.
