ENSURE-6G Research Secondment at Özyeğin University: Advancing Agentic AI-Driven 6G Networks for Ethical, Secure, and Privacy-Preserving Future Communications.

As part of the ENSURE-6G Staff Exchange Programme, I completed a one-month research secondment at Özyeğin University (OzU) in Istanbul, Türkiye, representing the Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA), Ecuador.

The primary purpose of the visit was to deepen our understanding of the ethical challenges associated with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and next-generation 6G technologies. The secondment focused on examining how ethical principles can be translated into policies, regulatory frameworks, and legal mechanisms to promote the responsible, transparent, and trustworthy use of AI. In addition, it explored how industry can effectively implement these frameworks, facilitating compliance with ethical guidelines while fostering innovation and sustainable technological development.

It was a privilege to work alongside Dr. Başak Ozan Özparlak, whose guidance, collaboration, and academic support greatly enriched this research secondment. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas, develop new research directions, and engage in inspiring scientific discussions throughout my stay.

During the secondment, I had the opportunity to visit several research laboratories and interact with researchers working across diverse disciplines, including quantum technologies, robotics, wireless communications, Wi-Fi, LiFi, and next-generation networking. These experiences provided valuable insights into emerging technologies and highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing the challenges of future intelligent communication systems.

We also contributed to the development of VR4SixG: Interactive Virtual Reality Learning for 6G Networks, an immersive educational platform designed to enhance the understanding of next-generation 6G communication systems. This work investigates how virtual reality can improve users’ comprehension of ethical challenges, privacy risks, governance frameworks, and the principles of trustworthy AI through interactive and experiential learning environments.

This secondment represents an important milestone in strengthening long-term international partnerships and lays the foundation for future collaborative research initiatives. I look forward to continuing our joint efforts within the ENSURE-6G project, contributing to the development of secure, ethical, trustworthy, and AI-driven 6G technologies that will shape the next generation of intelligent communication systems.

Özyeğin University offers an outstanding research environment, characterized by a modern campus, world-class facilities, a vibrant international community, and a culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, and academic excellence. The welcoming atmosphere, together with the diversity of its students and researchers, made this secondment both professionally rewarding and personally enriching.

Beyond the research outcomes, this secondment reinforced the transformative value of international collaboration in advancing ethical, intelligent, and trustworthy 6G technologies. Set against the unique backdrop of Istanbul where centuries of cultural heritage seamlessly coexist with technological innovation the experience fostered interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, creativity, and global partnerships while promoting meaningful cultural understanding. It highlighted how international mobility and collaborative initiatives such as ENSURE-6G accelerate scientific discovery, strengthen cross-cultural collaboration, and drive the responsible development of next-generation digital infrastructures.
