Advancing Trustworthy Multi-Agent AI Systems for 6G Security: A Research Secondment at Z-RED

As part of the ENSURE-6G Horizon Europe Project, researchers from the Universidad de Las Américas (UDLA), Ecuador, are carrying out a research secondment at Z-RED L.P. (Greece) under Task 3.3, contributing to the investigation of ethical considerations for MultiAgent Artificial Intelligence systems in the context of 6G security.

The secondment brings together complementary expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, Intelligent Automation, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Emerging Digital Technologies to address one of the key challenges of future 6G ecosystems: ensuring that autonomous intelligent agents operate in a trustworthy, transparent, explainable, and ethically responsible manner.

The research focuses on understanding how trust dynamics among autonomous AI agents influence collaboration, coordination, and decision-making within AI-driven 6G environments. Particular attention is given to the role of Human-in-the-Loop mechanisms, enabling meaningful human oversight while promoting transparency, explainability, interpretability, and accountability in AI-supported decision processes involving multiple stakeholders.

The work follows two complementary research directions. The first investigates the application of virtue ethics and ethical framework analysis to identify the moral dimensions of trust in distributed multi-agent systems. The second explores Agent-Based Modelling as a methodology for simulating interactions among autonomous agents, analysing how ethical principles, trust mechanisms, privacy, and security influence collaborative decision-making in next-generation communication networks.

The research activities are supported by an extensive review of the current state of the art, including recent contributions on Trusted AI, Human-in-the-Loop Machine Learning, Trustworthy and Explainable Artificial Intelligence, Multi-Agents, Trust Anchor Technologies, and the regulatory implications of the European Union AI Act. These studies provide the theoretical foundation for the development of ethical and legal frameworks capable of supporting trustworthy AI deployment within future 6G infrastructures.

Beyond the scientific objectives of Task 3.3, the secondment promotes international knowledge exchange between Z-RED and UDLA, fostering future collaboration in research, innovation, academic cooperation, and technology transfer.

This secondment reflects the ENSURE-6G vision of integrating technological excellence with ethical and societal considerations, supporting the development of resilient, responsible, and trustworthy communication ecosystems for the next generation of intelligent networks.
