Advancing Privacy, Ethics, and Trustworthy Governance in 6G: My ENSURE-6G Secondment at UCD

As part of the ENSURE-6G project (www.ensure-6g.eu), I completed a two-month secondment at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, from 12 January 2026 to 11 March 2026, representing Z-RED L.P. This mobility period provided an important opportunity to contribute to the ENSURE-6G vision of secure, privacy-preserving, and trustworthy B5G/6G systems, while also strengthening academia–industry collaboration through knowledge exchange and enhanced transnational cooperation.

The secondment centred on collaborative research between UCD and Z-RED L.P., with a particular focus on innovative privacy solutions for 6G examined through legal, ethical, and governance perspectives. This work was directly aligned with Work Package 3, notably Tasks 3.1 and 3.3, which address privacy, ethics, fairness, and regulatory considerations in AI/ML-enabled 6G environments. In this context, the secondment contributed to ongoing efforts to explore how future 6G infrastructures can embed privacy, transparency, accountability, and compliance-by-design principles from the earliest stages of system development. An important outcome of the visit was the further advancement of a joint scientific paper addressing privacy challenges and potential solutions in 6G networks.

A key value of this secondment was the exchange of knowledge across disciplines, institutions, and national contexts. Collaboration with UCD researchers fostered mutual learning by bringing together technical expertise in advanced communication systems with legal, ethical, and governance perspectives on trustworthy AI and data protection. It also strengthened institutional ties and created a strong basis for future cooperation in the evolving field of 6G.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Prof. Madhusanka Liyanage and the UCD team for their warm support, constructive collaboration, and academic generosity throughout my stay. I am especially grateful to Prof. Eleni Mangina, who supervised my secondment and played a key role in making this research visit both productive and inspiring. Overall, the guidance, openness, and interdisciplinary spirit of the team were instrumental in ensuring the success of this secondment.

Looking ahead, I am excited to build on this collaboration through continued joint research, and further contributions to ENSURE-6G’s mission of advancing secure, ethical, and privacy-preserving 6G innovation.
